Kapeldalen and Sct. Margrethe's Chapel

Distance: 7.36 Km

Close to one of the old army road sections on the east side of Hald Lake looks the scenic Kapeldalen with the remains of Sct. Margrethe's Chapel.

The chapel was built by a holy spring. For hundreds of years, pilgrims and other good people made pilgrimages along Hærvejen to this spring, which in the Middle Ages was dedicated to St. Margaret. Maybe they came to be healed, maybe they wanted to ensure a long life. The legend says that people from the nearby farm fetched water here for generations - and that they all lived to be around 100 years old!

The place is still worth a visit, especially in the spring and early summer when the cuckoo herb is in bloom. The plot is seen as a distinct elevation close to the field road. The source itself has disappeared.

The chapel was built around 1490 and is mentioned as a ruin in 1623. It was 19 meters long and 9,5 meters wide.
