Hald Castle at De fem Halder

The ruined Hald Castle has been rebuilt on the remains of the medieval "Tredie Hald", also called Bispens or Jørgen Friis' Hald and is part of De fem Halder ved Viborg.

Jørgen Friis was the last Catholic bishop in Viborg. He built Hald Castle around the year 1528, and the castle complex was at that time a top modern defensive castle.

It was in the time leading up to the Reformation, when the priest Hans Tavsen also gained an ear for Luther's thoughts.
