E Bindstouw is part of the Viborg Museum and the world's smallest open-air museum, an old schoolhouse from the 1700th century. In the winter, the house was a school and dressing room.

When the children had gone home and darkness fell over the schoolroom, the counting lights were lit and the adults met to knit, tell stories and sing shows.

St. St. Bleach

In the middle of Lysgård is the old school, which St. St. Blicher became famous with the short story "E Bindstouw" from 1842. Blicher let the binding room be the setting for a number of stories and shows in different Jutland dialects. He chose Lysgaard near Viborg as the location. This gave him the opportunity to let the entertainment unfold in both West and East Jutland. When Blicher wrote the short story, the village school in Lysgaard was not just for the school's children.

Today, the house E Bindstouw stands as an open-air museum in Lysgård outside Viborg and as part of Viborg Museum.

The museum is happy to open to visitors all year round.
