Skovgaard Museum is Viborg's art museum with works from the artist family Skovgaard. Go back in time and experience the art and exciting changing special exhibitions.

The artist Joakim Skovgaard decorated Viborg Cathedral, and the museum was created to honor him and his family, many of whom were artists. The museum therefore also has a large collection of works by Joakim's father, the landscape painter PC Skovgaard, and by his siblings Niels Skovgaard and Susette Holten b. Skovgaard and their contemporaries.

Historic building and location

The museum is housed in the city's old town hall, a baroque building from 1728 next to Viborg Cathedral. Here, in the high-ceilinged living rooms, hang motifs from the Golden Age and the time after, beautiful craftsmanship and the first beats for Danish design.
