The National Archives' collections in Viborg go back to around the year 1200. From the mid-1600s, the collections become increasingly full. For the last 2-300 years, they contain information on virtually every person who has lived in Northern Jutland, i.e. the area from Skagen to Kongeåen.

The National Archives contains the archives from the state offices, e.g. counties, county halls, bishops, town and lord bailiffs, judges, police chiefs, provosts, priests, customs, and printing service, as far back as they have been preserved.

In addition to public archives, the National Archives contains valuable private collections, especially property archives and the private archives of prominent persons, reading rooms and tours for a fee.

THE FOLLOWING DAYS ARE CLOSED: Sundays and public holidays, Easter Saturday, Saturday after Ascension Day, 1 May, Constitution Day, 23 December - 2 January incl. as well as the previous Saturday if this is the last opening day before Christmas.
