In the middle of Viborg you will find the beautiful Viborg Lakes – Nørresø and Søndersø – surrounded by lush nature and close to the city life. A wealth of experiences await both young and old: cast your line for a leisurely fishing trip, enjoy a refreshing dip in the clear water, or take the family on enjoyable water activities such as kayaking and SUP.

The lakes are an obvious excursion destination for those who want nature experiences within walking distance of the city center - perfect for an active and relaxing holiday in Viborg.

The entire trip around the Viborg Lakes is 11 km long, and along the way you can experience both nature, culture and beautiful views. You can take the entire trip on foot or by bike, or you can shorten it by choosing only one or the other lake. Søndersø is mostly green and calm, Nørresø is more urban.

Fishing and boat rentals

You can also go fishing at the Viborg lakes, where it is permitted to fish from the public areas down to the lakes. However, always remember to have your state fishing license with you. If you want to explore the lakes from the water, you can rent boats at the kiosk at Borgvold by Nørresø.

Please note that there are no special protections for fishing in the Viborg lakes, so the general protections apply.
