Rewind time and experience the old craftsmanship in Hvolris Iron Age near Viborg. Over the summer there are changing activities with animation, crafts, archery and cooking over a fire. In the village, you can follow the daily chores and pursuits of the Iron Age people and feel the Iron Age firsthand.

Historical experiences at Hvolris

Our ancestors have lived in the area since the Stone Age - about 6000 years ago and up until now. Hvolris primarily focuses on the Iron Age around the year 0. Uniquely for a historical workshop, you can see archaeological excavations side by side with the recreated Iron Age in the hills of Hvolris.

Exhibitions at Hvolris

In Tømmerladen you can explore the archeological exhibition with Iron Age finds from excavations at Hvolris. Many of the Iron Age pots have been copied for use in the village, where they are used for cooking.

The Iron Age farmer's costume, which in several copies is well preserved from bog finds, is shown with selected copies in the exhibition.

An open-air museum rich in nature

Hvolris Jernalder is an open-air museum located in Skals Ådal, approx. 20 km north of Viborg. Here you will find a large natural area with a sculpture grove, nature playground, crafts and cooking, which can be tried on your own during selected periods.

Hvolris Jernalder is open on weekdays from 1 April to 31 October. During the summer and autumn holidays, the open-air museum is brought to life.

Hvolris Antique Market

The annual and traditional antique market at Hvolris is two days filled with living history, craftsmanship and atmosphere. Feel the iron glow to the blacksmith's hammer. Let your nose follow the scent of fire and smoke, while the warriors' battle cries and the sound of weapons fill the air.

Hvolris Antique Market is held every year on the second full weekend in September.
