Grønhøj Kro is a Royal Privileged Inn from 1848, located on Alheden in central Jutland. Here you can visit the legendary Morten Korch Museum, experience the story behind the Potato Germans, take a tour of a historic retro shop and much more.

The area is often called "Eine kleine Deutschland", as you will find a lot of German cultural heritage here.

The potato Germans

In stable buildings at Grønhøj Kro there are, among other things, rebuilt a barn, which dates from the time around 1760, when the German colonists (potato Germans) came to the country, and who made the potato a popular food in Denmark.

The potato barn stood for the first few years about 100 meters from the place where it has been rebuilt today. After a few years, the owner decided to move his farm to a place where he had more land. This made it one of the so-called relocation farms. Today, there are still areas named after several relocations. Names such as Tohuse , Trehuse , Firhuse.

German memorial rooms and exhibitions

You can also delve into exhibitions about the nearby German church Frederiks kirken, Fliegerhost Grove (at Flyvestation Karup), the German refugee cemeteries in Kølvrå and Grove Kirke as well as the memorial room for 7 crew members of a downed Lancaster aircraft in 1942.
