Take a fascinating journey back in time at Daugbjerg Kalkgruber, the oldest hand-excavated limestone mines in Denmark. Here you can get up close to both history and nature as you explore the illuminated corridors that stretch a full 60 meters underground.

In spring and autumn you can experience the bats' movements in and out of the pits where they overwinter. At the same time you can learn about the exciting stories of witches, the lime workers and the infamous robber Jens Langkniv - Jutland's own Robin Hood.

History, bats and underground adventures

Daugbjerg Limestone Mines gives you the opportunity to step back in history and gain a unique insight into life underground. The bats that hibernate here are a major attraction, but the mines also offer a wealth of stories about everything from the lives of lime workers to the myths of witches and robbers. Walk through the illuminated mine shafts and feel the whisper of history.

Nature in Dybdalskov and troll hunting for the little ones

Once you have explored the pits, you can continue your adventure in the protected Dybdalskov forest that surrounds the area. The forest is known for its rare species of ferns and mosses, and with a little luck you can also spot rare animals such as the field lizard. In the forest you will find Skovhytten, which houses a cozy café and kiosk, where you can relax with a cup of coffee. For children, there is the opportunity to go troll hunting in the forest - a free and fun experience for the whole family.

Daugbjerg Kalkgruber is located near Viborg and is open to visitors during the spring and autumn seasons.
Remember good footwear for the uneven ground and a warm sweater for the cool underground passages.
Parking is available at the entrance, and Dybdalskov, which surrounds the area, is perfect for a relaxing hike after visiting the mines.

Daugbjerg Kalkgruber is open during the winter holidays, Easter, on weekends in May, September and October, as well as from Tuesday to Sunday in June, July and August - and throughout week 42.
